Efficiency Ritual

Efficiency Ritual is an exploration of morphogenesis, spanning modernist architecture, organic formations, and daily performed practices. The artist records his observations and experiments to distill abstract patterns in the behavior of matter – purism, degradation, ritualization. Whether seen as spontaneous or artificial, these basic tendencies boil down to processes beyond human control, subverting the positioning of art as a productive, goal-oriented activity.

Alexey Bogolepov (1985) is a Russian artist currently living and working in Saint Petersburg. His work comprises architectural photography, sculpture, video and installation in a broad exploration of modernism both in the post-Soviet states and worldwide. He has held solo and group shows in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Minsk, and Vladivostok. His work is featured in the Amplitude Nr.1 – a set of 10 photobooks by emerging Russian photographers published by FotoDepartament. The book has been shortlisted for Aperture Paris Photo Photobook award.
