Poznan Biennale of Photography

The subject at the heart of the Biennale this year is the gradual departure from the notion of the centre and the promotion of the margin, the result of which is a change of places of a minority discourse that has become the dominant one. The same changes are identified in Polish photography: the documentary discourse has today nearly become mainstream; reception of the past has changed; the photography of socialist realism returns today as an intriguing field of artistic endeavour; increased interest in the output of women-photographers. The organizers have focused on three main themes: margins of history, margins of art and margins of the senses.
