Gregory Crewdson: In a Lonely Place
The exhibition with works by the American photographer Gregory Crewdson (b. 1962) presents rather claustrophobically lonely atmosphere. In Crewdson’s images the heartrending beauty and melancholy is enhanced by a nightmarish atmosphere of repression and desire. In a Lonely place is comprised by several series of Crewdson’s work, such as Beneath the Roses (impressively staged tableaus balancing between the painterly and the filmic), Fireflies, and Crewdson’s latest series Sanctuary (made in the legendary Italian film studios Cinecittà).
