Leon Höllhumer`s work is set between photography, performance and installation. A massage therapist by profession, Höllhumer received the images in visions of a sort during therapy sessions and made them the basis for his artistic practice. There comes a critical moment during a healing massage when mind, body, and world enter an ecstatic constellation. The masseur steps outside the world of everyday life to come into contact with a transcendental realm of ideas. To massage is always also to be massaged. This act of reciprocal massage allows the therapist’s inner vision to penetrate the layers of a universal iconography, delicately charting a path into the subcutaneous fatty tissue of a visual idiom that sustains a profound treatment of the visual receptors in the beholder’s eye to impart a curative effect.
