Tear Line

This project is about a land, which exists and does not exist at the same time. It has different names on different maps depending on which side you are now. It’s about suspense. The territory of the former South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast within the former Georgian SSR declared itself an independent republic during the collapse of the Soviet Union. For about 20 years there has been a constant military conflict. The recent rise of tension was in August 2008 and led to full-scale military actions. The legacy of South Ossetia is still uncertain.

Anastasia Soboleva (1989) is a Russian photographer whose works were selected for a night projection during Riga Photomonth opening week. The event will take place on 9 May 10pm at Kaņepes Culture Centre in Riga.
