Null Hypothesis

The project reflects on the human need for explanation, predictability and certainty. Yet, our existence is subject to confusion and we are surrounded by contradictions, unknowns and things that cannot be resolved.

The series takes its name from an important analytical method of research used to rule out random results. In null-hypothesis testing, it is presumed that given observations result purely from chance. The aim of the method is to reject the null hypothesis, and thus prove—with certainty beyond reasonable doubt—that the alternative non-random one is true.

Jan Cieslikiewicz (1979) is a Polish photographer, who has studied the General Studies program at International Center of Photography, he also holds a degree in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University. His work has been shown at Circulation(s) in Paris, Krakow and Riga Photomonth and other events.
